Hexi Corridor 6-Day Silk Road & Grotto Culture Journey

Travel west along the Hexi Corridor from Lanzhou to Wuwei, Zhangye, Jiayuguan and Dunhuang, combining early Buddhist grottoes, frontier history, Danxia geology, Gobi art, local crafts, regional food and the art of the Mogao Caves.

6 days 5 nights

Route Highlights

  • Lanzhou through food and living culture: beef noodles, Gansu Provincial Museum, a traditional gourd craft, Yellow River tea and a night market create a layered first day rather than a simple transit stop.
  • A connected grotto-art sequence from Tiantishan and Mati Temple to the Mogao Caves, helping travelers see different stages and regional expressions of Buddhist cave art along the Hexi Corridor.
  • A broad range of northwest landscapes and frontier sites, including Zhangye Colorful Danxia, Jiayuguan Pass, the Gobi sculpture “Son of the Earth,” and Mingsha Mountain with Crescent Lake.
  • Hands-on and lifestyle experiences—including Feitian styling, wine tasting, traditional craft and desert sunset—add variety for culture-focused and photography-oriented travelers.
